Teaching Assistantship in Trumpet Performance

RESPONSIBILITIES: Performance with the Chamber Arts Brass, the faculty brass quintet at ULM. Other duties may include ensemble coaching, studio assignments with non-music majors, performance with university ensembles, teaching a music appreciation class as part of core curriculum, other assignments based on expertise and interest. There are additional performance opportunities with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, local musical theatre and performing groups, and national touring events that make Monroe one of their stops.

STIPEND: $7500 per academic year, full tuition waiver.

QUALIFICATIONS: Winning audition for the faculty brass quintet position, BachelorŐs degree in music, and admission to the Graduate School.

DEGREES: Master of Music with concentrations in instrumental conducting, choral conducting, performance, theory and composition, and music education.

APPLICATION: An on campus audition/interview is required for admission to one of the degree plans listed above. Admission to the Graduate School is required for consideration. Applications are reviewed on a continuing basis until position is filled.

DIVISION OF MUSIC: In the College of Arts and Sciences and housed in the School of Visual and Performing Arts, the Division of Music, which holds NASM accreditation, offers B.M., B.M.E., and M.M. degrees. The Division enjoys extensive participation by non-music majors as well as majors in its bands, choirs, operas, musicals and orchestra. The Division currently has 22 full-time faculty and employs 7 graduate assistants. A $5 million complete renovation of the music facility with the addition of a new 300-seat recital hall was completed in 2004.

The brass faculty at ULM includes Marilynn Gibson - trumpet, Dr. James Boldin - horn, and Dr. Micah Everett - trombone/euphonium/tuba.

THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA AT MONROE


The University of Washington School of Music announces a position in its Orchestral Instruments Division scheduled to begin in September, 2008. The School of Music at the University of Washington has approximately 500 music majors in programs including Music Education, Jazz Studies, Ethnomusicology, Composition/Theory, Performance, Conducting, Music History, and Opera Production.

Rank and Salary: Assistant Professor, tenure track. 100% full-time FTE. 9months/year. Initial three year appointment beginning 9/16/08, and subject to renewal review in the second year. Salary is competitive and dependent upon experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities: Private instruction in trombone at the Undergraduate and Graduate levels, coaching chamber music; assertive recruitment efforts; other duties as assigned by Director, consistent with candidates’ qualifications in secondary area(s) of expertise. The University of Washington faculty engages in teaching, research, and service.

Qualifications: Four years University-level teaching experience to include one or more of the following areas: Music Theory, Jazz Studies, Contemporary Music, Instrumental Conducting. M.M. degree is required. Emerging or established artist of national/international stature, evidenced by participation in professional organizations, festivals, recordings, publications.

Instructor of Horn
Commencing September, 2008

Interlochen Center for the Arts, one of America’s oldest and most prestigious institutions for arts education, performance, and fine arts presentations, seeks a full-time Artist/Instructor of Horn. The ideal candidate is a highly energetic, motivated and visible horn-performer-educator who is dedicated to providing creative and challenging instruction to gifted and promising young artists and promotes strong collegial relationships with professional colleagues within and outside the school. All faculty are required to work with students outside their teaching responsibilities, compensating for parental absence and assisting the residence hall staff in the development of students' total experience at Interlochen. Qualifications: A Master of Music degree or performance equivalent in Horn, with substantial performance in significant venues and demonstrated teaching experience is required. The successful candidate must be able to create an exciting and challenging teaching and performing environment that fosters an intense learning atmosphere. Significant experience as a private teacher who understands the needs and capabilities of young, developing high caliber performers at the high school or college level will be an essential quality of the ideal candidate. Interlochen expects its performance faculty to establish and maintain personal and professional credibility through frequent performance on and off campus.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will maintain an active studio of private horn and chamber music instruction and coaching, participate in coaching and conducting brass ensemble, and conduct studio classes and horn sectionals for band and orchestra. Performance faculty are responsible for preparing students for college and conservatory auditions. They are also expected to demonstrate high potential for and take an active role in recruiting efforts that both build and maintain an outstanding private studio. All faculty are expected to participate in a variety of student and campus activities.
